Who this course is for:

Most people who suspect a thyroid problem are told by the NHS their test result is “normal” (note: not optimal) but the NHS only checks 2 biomarkers (TSH and T4).

These markers don’t show the full picture of how your thyroid is actually functioning.

To truly understand what’s going on, you need a more complete panel of 5 (sometimes 6) biomarkers. This includes T3, the active thyroid hormone that drives your metabolism, energy, mood, and cognitive clarity. The NHS does not routinely test T3, which means many people are effectively being medicated without knowing whether the active hormone is being produced or converted properly.

The NHS also doesn’t test thyroid antibodies. Without these, you would never know if your thyroid is:

  • inflamed

  • under autoimmune attack

  • struggling to function

  • or showing early signs of disease

This is one of the main reasons people continue to feel unwell — exhausted, foggy, low, gaining weight, or “not themselves” — even after being told their thyroid is “fine” or after receiving standard treatment.

My comprehensive thyroid test looks at the full set of biomarkers, so we can see:

  • whether your body is converting T4 into the active T3

  • whether your immune system is involved

  • whether inflammation is present

  • and what the root cause of your symptoms may be

Once we have this information, the workshop helps you understand:

  • what your results mean

  • why you’ve been feeling the way you do

  • what steps you can take to support your thyroid, your energy, your hormones, and your long‑term wellbeing.

This is about giving you clarity, answers, and a plan — not guesswork.

FAQs:

Q. I’ve already had my thyroid tested by the NHS. Why would I want it tested again?

A. The NHS only test 2 biomarkers, neither of which is the active form of thyroid hormone. The NHS parameters of what is considered ‘normal’ are very wide and therefore they only detect and medicate serious thyroid problems. This test is a full thyroid panel providing 5 biomarkers. We will apply the Functional Medicine parameters for optimal thyroid function, which are much narrower than those used by the NHS. This picks up more acute disease, which allows for prevention of serious disease in later years.

Q. My doctor has already given me levothyroxine.

A. Medicating with levothyroxine does not get to the root cause of why the thyroid may not be working, whether this is nutritional, auto-immune or toxicological. We will see this in the test results and be able to address any issues ahead of the problem becoming more serious in future. We will also be able to detect other associated pathologies and improve overall wellbeing whether this be menstrual, menopausal, hormonal, energetic, weight-related or any other associated symptoms. We will also discuss non-pharmaceutical approaches to improving thyroid function.

Q. What happens if I want a follow-up test?

A. You may wish to have a follow up test after 3 months to see the improvement in your thyroid function. We will also explore more complex reasons for any remaining thyroid problems. An additional fee applies. Alternatively, you may wish to book a more in-depth 1-2-1 consultation with one of our practitioners.
